Artist in residency has time limits for artists to explore and to create new work. During the time of an artist in residency in Paris, As metaphor of this circumstances Shusuke used a historical photograph “Boulevard du Temple” which was taken by French Photographer Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre. This photograph is known as a first photograph which could be captured an image of a human. One of busiest street in Paris, due to the duration of exposure time, only a shoe cleaner and its customer could appear in photograph. Shusuke asked street performer to do living statue at the same place where shoe cleaner and its customer were standing in the photograph, to memories the people who went through with passing, including Shusuke documenting this reenactment.
Since I arrived in Paris at begging of October, the days went so fast, to discover things, to see things, to meet friends, etc. For me two months of time flies just like a moment. May be because of this feeling , I had some empathy with people who didn’t appear on the photograph of Boulevard du Temple. For me, the time of Paris I was thinking a lot the way of preserving a moment perfectly through memorizing and documenting. And always I had feeling that I failed to do it.
