What do people think when they return to their hometown after a long journey? Do they feel nostalgia? are they amazed at the changed scenery, or are they confused by the change in one’s own way of seeing? Thinking about these things, I picked up a rounded stone I had found downstream of the river and took it upstream to the source of the river from which it would have come.

西松が移動させた様々な石の記録写真たち。長い時間を旅に費やして地元に戻ったとき、そこに人は何を思うのだろうか？懐かしみや郷愁の念なのか、変わってしまった風景に驚嘆するのか、それとも自身の見え方の変化に戸惑うのか。そんなことを考えながら、私は川の下流域で拾った丸くなった石を拾い上げ、その石が流れてきたであろう上流の源流域に持っていった。
