At march of 2014, I went to Bethlehem for a month to meet my girlfriend. I often wandered around the city while my staying. At the beginning sometime I got lost. But I enjoyed to draw a map of Bethlehem in my head through being lost.

When I was walking sometime the taxi driver stopped me and asked, “Do you want to take a taxi?” most of the time I said, “I am just walking so I don‘t need taxi today.” And he said, “if you want to look around this city or Hebron, call me this number,” and he gave me a business card to me. After a few weeks the city map in my head became more accurate than before, I noticed where the tourists are and where they are not. And often where they are is the place where many taxis are. When I saw the business cards I collected, it made me feel my map in my head are included in the tourist‘s movements.

A day before I leave Bethlehem, I decided to spend the last day by traveling from taxi to taxi by calling the numbers on the business cards which I collected. Repeating travel from taxi to next taxi, I thought it would show how the tourist might move around in city.

2014の３月、僕は彼女に会うためにベツレヘムに１ヶ月程滞在した。滞在中僕はよくベツレヘム市内を散歩して過ごした。適当に歩いているとはじめの頃はよく道に迷い困る事もあった。でも迷ったりしていると、徐々に頭の中でベツレヘムの地図ができてくるようで楽しかった。散歩していると、よくタクシーの運転手に声をかけられた。　”タクシーに乗るかい？”　僕は大体”今日は歩いてるだけだから、タクシーには乗らない。”といい断った。するとタクシーの運転手は”もしヘブロンとか市内を観光したかったら、ここに電話してよ。”と僕に名刺を渡した。数週間もすぎて頭の中のベツレヘムの地図も正確になってくると、どこに観光客がいて、どこに観光客がいないのか分かるようになった。大体観光客が集まる所にはタクシーも集まっていた。滞在中に集まった名刺を見ていると、僕の頭の中の地図も、観光客の移動するエリアの中にあるような気がした。

ベツレヘムを後にする前日、タクシーから次のタクシーへ、集まった名刺に電話をかけながら旅をする事にした。タクシーで次のタクシーがいる所へ向かう、それを繰り返せば、きっとどのように観光客が市内を旅をする事ができるのかが分かると思う。
