In this work, created for an art festival held in Tsushima, Nishimatsu inspired with the Taxidermy of kitataki (Tristram’s woodpecker) he saw several years ago at the Tsushima Museum, which he believed to be the last one confirmed to inhabit the island. 

The theme of the process of change in memory and its rumor, this work weaves together 8mm film footage of Mitake mountain that deteriorates with repeated playback, historical facts surrounding the kitataki (Tristram’s woodpecker), and personal memories of the taxidermy of bird.

対馬で開催された芸術祭のために制作された本作で、西松は数年前に見た対馬博物館に所有されているキタタキの剥製が、対馬で生息が確認された最後の１羽であると思い込んでいたことをモチーフに作品を制作した。一つの記録・記憶が変化していく過程をテーマにした本作は、再生を繰り返すことで劣化していく御嶽を撮影した8mmフィルムと、キタタキにまつわる史実とその剥製にまつわる個人的な記憶をによって紡がれている。

（＊キタタキの生存が間違いなく記録されているのは大正年間で、対馬博物館に所有されているキタタキの剥製は明治35(1902)年に平田駒太郎氏が御嶽で採集されたもの）
