Soumatou ( 走 馬 灯 ) is a word that means rotating lantern and also can mean flashback, which people see just before the last moment of life In Japanese. the way it written in Kanji character is Running(走)horse(馬)light(灯).

This is an installation that combines with a shadowgraph of “horse in motion” using images taken by Eadweard Muybridge and slide projector. The subtitle from the slide projector talks about the connection between the beggining of film history based on Eadweard Muybridge and Soumatou ( 走馬灯)last moment of the film people might see.

走馬灯をモチーフにして回転する影絵とスライド写真による字幕が組み合わされたインスタレーション作品。字幕ではマイブリッジが撮影した『動く馬』の連続写真について、 そして今際の時に見るであろう人生の様々な情景を振り返る瞬間「走馬灯」について、走る馬、人間の目では見ることの不可能な速度をキーワードに映像史の起源とその終わりについて綴られる。
